Today was our first day back in the salt. The weather was beautiful but the fish wouldn't cooperate.  They were there but not in great numbers. Had numerous follows and quite a few smacks, but only 3 hook-ups. It should be on fire in the next two weeks.

We had a chance to get out to one of our favorite  impoundments. No need for the kayaks today. This waterway does not allow boats. And for good reason, too! The wind was very light, so we took out the long rods. John decided to try his "Minnow" fly with a TFO 8wt and was rewarded with several bucketmouths. I threw a sparsely tied black #4 Clouser on a Scott 5wt.  I found the bass stacked up in a pre-spawn hole.
The 5wt was doubled over quite a few times! Around 8pm, all of the action came to a halt. Time to tie some more Clousers!

Today was our 1st Day back out on the Delaware River in 2010. The level is still up around 6 feet. A bit too high for a successful day fishing in the yaks. We explored the area using  sonar & GPS on the new Wilderness Tarpon 120.  Some nice new structure and most of the large eddies and humps are still there. We tried to locate the schools of shad but it was mid-day, so they were no where to be found . We headed up to the fish ladder for a visual confirmation of their annual visit to the sweetwater. In about an hour's time, we counted  6 nice buck shad, a sucker or two, and a disorientated carp. If the weather cooperates, we should have a banner year!
